Two Davao-based companies have signed agreements to supply fresh and frozen durian to China with a combined procurement value of USD 27 million, according to the Department of Agriculture (DA) XI, as reported by Mindanao Times.

The deals were signed with SumaiGou (Tianjin) Cross-border E-commerce Co. Ltd., a Chinese trading company, during the China International Import Expo (CIIE) 2026 in Shanghai. DA XI regional technical director for research and regulations Zabdiel Zacarias witnessed the signing.

The larger agreement is a USD 17 million strategic cooperation framework with Eng Seng Food Products, covering Nov. 1, 2026, to Oct. 31, 2028. The second is a USD 10 million frozen durian procurement agreement with Maylong Enterprises Corp., running from Nov. 1, 2026, to Oct. 31, 2027.

The agreements include durian varieties such as Puyat, Monthong and D101, among others, which the agency said shows the range of products the Davao durian industry can offer abroad. Both deals call for delivery under Cost, Insurance and Freight (CIF) terms to any port in China, following Incoterms 2020.

DA XI said the partnership "underscores the growing market opportunities for Davao durian in China" and supports efforts to expand the region's agricultural exports through international trade.

Seven agri-food enterprises from the Davao Region are taking part in the expo, which runs from Nov. 5 to 10, under the Philippine Pavilion branded as "Food Philippines." Besides Maylong and Eng Seng, the regional delegation includes 888 MML Corporation, New Asia Oil, Inc., BJM Plouteo Agri Export Trading, Fruta Asiatica Export and Agri Trading, and Gerb Golden Hands Corporation.

According to the agency, the participation gives local enterprises a chance to promote their products, build business links and explore export markets in China.

Why it matters for Davao

Durian is a signature Davao crop, and multi-year supply contracts with a Chinese buyer open a larger, steadier export market for the region's durian industry, according to DA XI.
