Privacy policy
Last updated 27 October 2026
This policy explains what DavaoNews collects when you use davaonews.com and the DavaoNews app, why, and the choices you have. We follow the Philippine Data Privacy Act of 2012 (Republic Act 10173).
What we collect when you sign in. When you sign in with Google we receive your name, email address and profile photo. We don't receive your Google password.
What you do on DavaoNews. We store your comments, reactions, saved stories, submissions, quiz answers, points, badges, your chosen district, and the people who joined through your invitation link.
Share links. When someone opens a story from your personal share link, we record a one-way, anonymised code for that visit so we can count unique readers. We don't store the visitor's IP address.
What is public. Your display name, username, profile photo, district, rank, badges, points and comments can be seen by others. Your email address is never shown publicly.
Contact and partner forms. The inquiry and partner forms at the bottom of each page are run by Domain Directory, part of the eCorp network. What you type there (name, email, message) goes to Domain Directory so the DavaoNews team can reply to you.
Payments. Ad and featured-listing payments are handled by PayPal. We receive the payment status and the name and email on the order, never your card or bank details.
Analytics. We use the eCorp network's page-visit counter (analytics.vnoc.com) to measure how many people visit and which pages they read. We use no advertising trackers and don't sell your data.
Cookies. We use a sign-in cookie, and a cookie that remembers who invited you for 30 days. The app may also keep pages on your device so it works offline.
Service providers. To run DavaoNews we use Google (sign-in), Cloudflare (hosting and database), PayPal (payments), Anthropic (the AI that writes story summaries, which receives the publishers' reports, not your personal data) and Domain Directory (contact forms). They process data only to provide their service to us.
How long we keep it. We keep your account data while your account is active. Comments you post stay on the stories they belong to unless you or we remove them. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your data within 30 days.
Your rights. You can see and edit your profile at any time. You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, or to delete your account, and you can object to how we use it. To do any of these, send us a note using the inquiry form at the bottom of any page, and we will act on it within 30 days. You can also complain to the National Privacy Commission (privacy.gov.ph).
Children. DavaoNews accounts are for people 13 and older. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, let us know and we will remove it.
Changes. If we change this policy, we'll update the date above, and we'll post a notice on the site for significant changes. See also our terms of service.
