Terms of service

These terms cover your use of davaonews.com and the DavaoNews app. DavaoNews is an eCorp Venture. By using the site you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use DavaoNews.

1. What DavaoNews is. We gather news about Davao City from local publishers and public sources. Our AI-assisted desk writes a short, original summary of each story and always credits and links the original publisher, whose reporting remains theirs. Summaries can contain mistakes; for anything important, read the original report linked on every story. See our editorial policy.

2. Your account. You sign in with Google. Keep your Google account secure; you are responsible for what is posted from your DavaoNews account. One account per person. You must be at least 13 years old to create an account.

3. Community guidelines. Be civil. No harassment, hate speech, threats, spam, scams, impersonation, or sharing of anyone's private information. Don't post content you don't have the right to share. We may remove content and suspend or ban accounts that break these rules.

4. Your submissions. When you submit a story, photo, comment, event or business listing, you confirm it is accurate and yours to share, and you give DavaoNews a free, non-exclusive licence to publish, edit, and share it on DavaoNews and our social channels. You keep ownership of what you submit.

5. Points, badges and invites. Points, ranks, badges, quests, quiz scores and the District Battle are for fun and recognition only. They have no cash value and cannot be sold or exchanged. Points earned through fake accounts, automated traffic, or other abuse will be removed. Founding-member status is a recognition of early members, not a paid membership.

6. Advertising. Ads and featured listings are prepaid through PayPal at the prices shown on the Advertise page. Advertisers are responsible for their ads and must have the right to use everything in them. We review ads before they run and may decline or remove any ad; if we decline an ad before it runs, we refund it. Ads removed later for breaking these rules are not refunded.

7. Directory listings. Business information is compiled from public sources or provided by owners. Please confirm details directly with the business. Owners can claim and update their listing. Listing a business is not an endorsement.

8. Events and cinema. Event and movie details are gathered from public listings and can change. Check with the organiser or cinema before you go.

9. Our content. The DavaoNews name, logo, design and our original write-ups belong to DavaoNews. You may share links and short quotes with credit. Please don't copy whole articles or scrape the site in bulk; developers and AI agents can use the public interfaces listed in our skill file.

10. Links to other sites. We link to publishers and businesses we don't control and aren't responsible for their content.

11. No warranty. DavaoNews is provided as is. We work to keep it accurate and available, but we can't promise it will always be error-free or online. To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for losses that come from relying on information on the site.

12. Changes. We may update these terms. When we do, we'll change the date above, and for significant changes we'll post a notice on the site.

13. Governing law. These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of the Philippines.
