Germany made history by becoming world champions for the first time after defeating Serbia 83-77 in the Final of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023

Dennis Schroder scored 28 points to lead Germany, who will leave Manila with their second-ever World Cup medal to go with their third-place finish in 2002. Germany broke open the game with a 13-2 run in the third quarter in front of 12,022 fans at the Mall of Asia Arena. Schroder decided the game with a layup with 21 seconds left.

Aleksa Avramovic scored 21 points in a losing effort for Serbia, who lost their second World Cup Final for their second silver medal following 2014 when they lost to USA.

Schroder had twice the reason to celebrate as the guard was named the TISSOT Most Valuable Player after another outstanding performance in the Final.

Schroder also topped the All-Star 5, where he was joined by Bogdan Bogdanovic of Serbia, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander from third-placed finishers Canada, Anthony Edwards from USA, and Slovenia star Luka Doncic .

In the Third-Place Game, Canada grabbed their first-ever World Cup medal as they beat USA 127-118 in an overtime thriller behind 39 points from Dillon Brooks. USA, who saw Mikal Bridges hit a three-pointer with 0.6 seconds left to force OT, leave the World Cup empty-handed in back-to-back events.
