“I would consider doing that in the future. Maybe, it won’t happen now with all the tournaments, camps and training. But I would love to do it some day,” said the 26-year old booter whose mother hails from Bunawan in Davao City.
Eggesvik recently competed in the 2024 Olympic Qualifiers in Perth, Western Australia, and the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.
“I appreciate the support of the fans, maraming salamat sa suporta,” she told this writer in an interview shortly after the Filipinas wound up its campaign in the Olympic Qualifiers with a 2-1 record. Despite that, the Filipinas missed out on the bus to Paris due to goal difference.
In Perth, the Filipinas finished their campaign with a 1-0 victory over Iran on Wednesday. They defeated Chinese Taipei 4-1 in their opening match before losing heartbreakingly 8-0 at the hands of Australia's Matildas.
Eggesvik remembers with fondness her childhood summertime visits to Davao City to see her grandmother and relatives.
“The last time I was there was last summer. I always remember the times we visit my Lola and cousins in Bunawan,” she said.
A Filipino woman from Bunawan in Davao City and a Norwegian father gave birth to Eggesvik in Bodø, Norway. Eggesvik attributes her introduction to football to her older brother, who she watched play as a child and who inspired her to pick up the game. During the holidays, she frequently travels to Davao to see her maternal relatives.
“I started playing football when I was 5. My brother introduced me to the sport,” she said.
Before joining the Philippine squad, Eggesvik competed for the Under-19 and Under-23 teams in international competitions.
