Valencia National High School won the secondary division championship at the 1st Davao Occidental Softball and Baseball Festival, held October 24 to 25 in Malita, Davao Occidental, according to Mindanao Gold Star Daily.

The two-day tournament was part of the province's Araw ng Davao Occidental celebration. Valencia NHS took the crown after a run of competitive games against secondary baseball teams from across the region. School officials credited the players and coaching staff for their dedication.

Kapalong National High School placed first runner-up in the secondary division. The report says Kapalong NHS faced Kiamba National High School of Region XII, a fifth-place finisher at the Palarong Pambansa, in a championship game that ended 6–8. One Kapalong NHS player, a left fielder, was also named Best Outfielder.

In the elementary division, Maniki Central Elementary School SPED Center, representing Kapalong, finished first runner-up under coaches Joey O. Magdoza and Eric John R. Toriales. One of its players also received a Best Outfielder award.

The Kapalong team thanked former Mayor Jun Galario and Mayor Amie G. Galario for arranging transportation that allowed the players to compete. It also acknowledged Schools Division Superintendent Jesnar Dems Torres for administrative and operational support during preparations.

Why it matters for Davao

The festival gave school softball and baseball teams from around the region, including Kapalong, a new venue to compete. It also showed how support from local governments and school divisions helps student-athletes take part.
