Tanduay unveils 20-year reserve rum at Bar Convent Berlin trade fair
The Philippine rum maker used Europe's major bar and beverage fair to launch a new aged rum and court potential partners abroad.
Philippine rum producer Tanduay launched its Tanduay Reserve Rum – 20 Years at Bar Convent Berlin, according to Mindanao Times. The annual trade fair for the bar and beverage industries ran from October 12 to 14 at Exhibition Centre Berlin in Germany.
The new rum is made from column-distilled rum from sugarcane molasses and is aged for at least 20 years in ex-bourbon barrels. The company said maturing it in the Philippines' tropical climate gives it notes of caramel, ripe banana, vanilla, cocoa and dried fruits, with a mild body and a medium amber colour.
Roy Kristoffer Sumang, Tanduay's international business development manager, said the fair let the company present its premium rums to an international audience and meet industry professionals and potential partners across Europe. He called the new release an expression that "embodies the excellence of Philippine rum-making."
During the event, Tanduay research and development head Janno Gironella led a masterclass on the brand's reserve rums. Sumang said the session was part of a wider push to educate international consumers about Philippine rums.
The company also served Filipino-inspired cocktails, including the Chief Lapu-Lapu, Toasted Coconut Ube Sours and a labuyo-inspired drink called Prickly Pear. Sumang said the drinks showed "the potential of Filipino ingredients and flavors."
According to Sumang, joining the fair supports Tanduay's ongoing expansion into international markets. The event draws bar owners, bartenders and manufacturers from about 90 countries.
