Weightlifting sisters Rosegie and Rose Jean Ramos have delivered the Philippines' first two medals at the 2026 International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) World Championships in Ningbo, China, Edge Davao reported.

Rose Jean, the younger of the two, got the country's medal haul started on Wednesday night. She won bronze in the snatch of the women's 49kg division with a lift of 86 kilograms. The 20-year-old then posted 95kg in the clean and jerk for a 181kg total, which placed her fifth overall.

Her elder sister Rosegie followed on Thursday night with a bronze of her own in the snatch of the women's 53kg division, lifting 97kg. She added 114kg in the clean and jerk for a 211kg total, also finishing fifth overall in her category.

More Filipino lifters are still set to compete. They include two-time Olympian Elreen Ando in the women's 61kg division, Kristel Macrohon in the women's 69kg category and Asian Games bronze medalist Albert Ian Delos Santos in the men's 71kg division. According to the report, Delos Santos hopes to build on his recent Asian Games showing.

The world championships are one of the required qualifying events where weightlifters can collect ranking points toward a spot at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The tournament runs until November 8.
