THE Department of Education-Davao City Division (DepEd-Davao City) is prepared to take on the task of improving the "gold medal performance" at the Palarong Pambansa 2024.

Reynante Solitario, DepEd-Davao superintendent, stated in a media interview on Sunday afternoon, April 7, 2024, at the Davao City-University of the Philippines-Mindanao (UPMin) Sports Complex in Mintal, that they will accept the challenge and try to outsource trainers from outside the city to ensure that the students are prepared for the national sports meet.

"Well, we have no choice but to accept the challenge. Kanina nag-usap kami ni mayor sa stage [before, the mayor (Sebastian Duterte) and I spoke on stage], we are seeking to outsource trainers from outside the city," he stated.

The department will begin training its athletes in June for a month to prepare them for the Palarong Pambansa. This initiative follows DepEd-Davao Regional Director Allan G. Farnazo's challenge to Davao City during the closing ceremony of the 2024 Davao Region Athletic Association (Davraa). He urged them to improve the athletes' gold medal performance for the Palarong Pambansa 2024.

Farnazo mentioned that although Davao City has been actively participating, he also urged other division offices to do their part in helping the department reach its target of securing a fourth-place rank in the upcoming Palarong Pambansa in Cebu City from July 6 to 13.

He emphasized that achieving the fourth rank is realistic, citing Davao's improvement from 11th place in 2019 to 6th place in 2023.

"We are forecasting an upward trend sa inyung lahat simulan natin ang paghahanda ituloy natin ang laban (We are forecasting an upward trend so to all of you let us be ready and continue the fight)," he went on to say.
