Former city mayor and president Rodrigo Duterte has declared his candidacy for mayor of Davao City once more.

On the evening of Saturday, October 5, 2024, Duterte announced that he will be rerunning for mayor in the 2025 elections at a news conference held at the Grand Menseng Hotel.
"O sige, tatakbo na lang ako, yan ang gusto ng mga tao eh," Duterte remarked, making a suggestion that he and current mayor Sebastian "Baste" would run together for vice mayor in the 2025 elections.
At the same gathering, Duterte issued a strong warning that he would hunt down and kill local criminals as well as addicts and pushers of illegal drugs.
