DCPO issued a statement on Tuesday, November 27, belying the fake news circulating online and being forwarded claiming that the targets of the operation on Monday, November 26, were member of the Isis-inspired Maute Group, who were able to penetrate the city to make a terror attack similar with Marawi.
“Sa tanang Fabawenyo, dili dayon ta mabalaka ug mutoo sa mga fake news nga nagakalat sa social media bahin sa nahitabong insidente sa Talomo, Davao City tungod kay ang nahitabong insidente ay usa ka lehitimong operasyon sa kapulisan ug sa kasundalohan (To all Dabawenyos, let’s not immediately believe fake news spreading on social media about the incident in Talomo, Davao City because it was a legitimate operation of police and military),” the statement read.
They reiterated that the operateion was a service of warrant of arrest to a wanted person identified as Commander Jeffrey of the Pulang Bagani Command 1 (PBC1) of the communist New People's Army (NPA) and his cohort who are part of the Special Partisan Unit (Sparu) Special Operation Group of the Southern Mindanao Regional Committee (SMRC).
Jeffery has a warrant for serious illegal detention, robbery in band, attempted murder, and two counts of murder.
“Dili ISIS/Maute ang naengkwentro sa inyong kapulisan ug kasundalohan sa Talomo (The suspects encountered by the security forces are not members of the Maute group),” they emphasized.
Thus, they are encouraging the public to be alert and help them in apprehending the suspects who are still at large by reporting it to authorities should they notice suspicious looking individuals in their area.
