According to an online survey conducted by the Institute of Popular Opinion of the University of Mindanao from March 22 to 30, Dabawenyos also want the next president to be honest and sincere, to respect the rule of law, to continue the good programs of the outgoing administration, and to respect human rights.
The survey was administered among 1,200 respondents in Davao City's three congressional districts, just weeks after leading pollsters in the country launched preference ratings for the country's President and Vice President, and social media was buzzing with photos and posts about organized political rallies.
In conducting the survey, the IPO relied heavily on interviewing Facebook users who are residents of Davao City who are at least 18 years old.
When asked what qualities they want in their next Philippine President, Dabawenyo voters said they want a President who will prioritize public health (88.4%), sound economic management (88.1%), education (88.1%), agriculture and food security (86.4%), national security (85.4%), and climate change and disaster risk reduction (80.2 percent).
“In addition, Dabawenyos also expect that the next president is honest and sincere (84.7 percent), respects the rule of law (82.9 percent), will continue the good programs of the outgoing administration (80.4 percent), and respects human rights (80.2 percent),” the IPO said.
The other qualities that Davao City voters prefer their president to have is has experience in crafting laws (68.8 percent), maintaining peaceful negotiations with China (68.3 percent), has a sense of justice and rules with an iron fist (67.3 percent) reopening tourism (66.8 percent), not easily bribed by campaign lobbyist (65.6 percent), not tolerating red tape (64.6 per cent), and promoting federalism (57.4 percent), having cordial relations with the church (36.1 percent).
When questioned who they would vote for as President and Vice President if elections were held during the course of the survey, 68. For vice president, 3% said they would vote for former Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos, while 84.9 percent said they would vote for Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.
On the other hand, 12.4 percent favored Vice President Leni Robredo, 2% favored Senator Panfilo Lacson, and 1% favored Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Dumagoso.
Following Mayor Sara in the race for Vice President are.Sen. Senate President Vicente "Tito" Sotto III has 1.5 percent, while Kiko Pangilinan has 7.9 percent.
Surprisingly, 15.3 percent of survey respondents preferred to be silent or undecided on their preference for president, while only 5 percent are silent or undecided on their preference for the country's second highest elective position.
