During her special hour program on Monday, March 21, 2022, Duterte-Carpio said the surge may happen in one to two months according to public health experts.
However, Duterte-Carpio predicts the surge may arrive within a month.
“Ingon sila this will come in about two months, but akong prediction in about a month muabot ang surge sa Covid-19 diri sa atoa,” she said.
(They said the surge will come in about two months, but my prediction is the Covid-19 surge will arrive in about a month.)
Duterte-Carpio said the surge is not only in Davao City but could be another nationwide surge. She said the prediction is based on the ongoing surge happening in other countries caused by the said BA.2 sub-variant.
“Because dugay kaayo ang incubation sa Covid-19, 14 days, so makalusot gyod na siya sa atong nasud just like all the other variants of Covid na nakalusot,” she said.
(The incubation of Covid-19 is 14 days so there is a possibility that it will enter the country just like other variants we had.)
With the prediction of an oncoming surge, the mayor said the City Government will not revert the existing executive orders that would return Davao City to more restrictive protocols, including the implementation of lockdowns.
“Ang atong direction for this upcoming surge is that wala gihapon ta lockdowns, and home isolation sa mga dili nanginahanglan og hospitalization.”
(Our direction for the upcoming surge is we will not implement lockdowns and home isolation is still allowed for patients not needing hospitalization.)
She said the City Government and Dabawenyos should strictly follow and implement the wearing of face masks and avail of the booster dose vaccine to have an added layer of protection against the Covid-19 disease.
“Ang atong kinahanglan pangandaman is ang inyong booster especially kung kamo ay dialysis patient, diabetic, naga-insulin, naa mo sakit sa kidney or cancer patient, or kung naa pre-existing na sakit,” Duterte-Carpio said.
(Our needed preparation is for people to get the booster dose vaccines especially those who are undergoing dialysis, diabetic and taking insulin, kidney or cancer patient, and have pre-existing illnesses.)
She advised that people with comorbidities or pre-existing serious diseases should be administered with the booster vaccine before the surge arrives.
