The US diplomat is in the Philippines to familiarize herself with the country and learn how to strengthen US-Philippine relations.

"I'm visiting the Philippines from Washington, D.C. To highlight the great relationship between the United States and the Philippines, as well as the Filipino people, we wanted to get out of the capital city and come to Davao City to learn about the concerns and people here and in Mindanao," Kane told Edge Davao.

Kane stated that her visit highlights the people-to-people interaction, as well as the US's regard and affinity for Filipinos, particularly in Davao City.

Kane works in the United States. The Bureau of Global Public Affairs of the Department of State is in charge of initiatives that engage overseas audiences and media in order to improve their knowledge of US principles and policies.

Kane also visited with several of Davao City's female journalists to examine the situation of community journalism and ways to sustain it.
