The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) declared the beginning of the El Nio phenomena in the nation.
The weather service stated during a press conference that El Nio is now still weak but "signs of strengthening in the coming months."
El Nio is expected to be moderate to strong at least during the final quarter of the year, according to models, with a likelihood of above 56%.
According to Pagasa, the El Nio phenomena raises the possibility of below-average rainfall conditions, which could lead to dry spells and droughts, which could have an impact on "water resources, agriculture, energy, health, and public safety" in various regions of the nation.
