No classes in public schools on May 2 to 13 due to elections

The DepEd cited Order No. 29 from 2021 in a Facebook post, indicating that the dates are set aside for "election-related activities."

According to Undersecretary Alain Pascua, 320,000 DepEd teaching and nonteaching personnel will serve as Board of Election members in the May 9 polls.

Despite the class suspension, teachers are still expected to report to school, even on days when there are no election-related duties or activities, according to the agency.

The Department of Education recently ordered that all personnel in areas under Alert Level 1 physically report to schools and offices for work.

A number of educator organizations have criticized the policy, claiming that many schools still have unstable internet connectivity, which would disrupt teachers' online classes.
