Davao de Oro exceeds its goal for foreign visitors in 2022

In terms of tourist arrivals, according to Dompor, the province ranked sixth among all the provincial governments in the nation in 2021. She claimed that the province has already surpassed its goal for this year.

“Naa mi target na minimum ten percent increase but wala pa nahuman ang tuig, 35 percent increase na ta from the previous year (We have a target of minimum ten percent increase but so far this year, we’ve had a 35 percent increase from the previous year),” she said during the Kapehan sa PIA media forum at NCCC Victoria Plaza.

The province saw the most visitors in 2020, before the Covid-19 pandemic hit the nation and strict lockdowns were put in place.

Despite the pandemic, the province has recently welcomed more visitors, especially from domestic and local bubbles, according to the tourism officer.

This was due to the pandemic, which turned outdoor recreational activities into the norm in the new normal.

“The domestic tourism is very strong. Ang mga tao tungod pandemic, nagpa-bukid (The people prefer the province because of the pandemic). They prefer more outdoor activities, which kami daghan kaayo (which we have a lot of),” Dompor said.

According to Dompor, the provincial LGU has been developing its tourism industry, beginning with the building of new resorts and tourist attractions.

The coastal tourist communities in the municipalities of Mabini and Pantukan, as well as the Maragusan highlands, are the places that receive the most visitors. Dompor claimed that due to increased accessibility, tourists can visit nearby locations like Davao Oriental with ease.

In addition, the province is promoting its tourism circuits, such as the Wellness Circuit, which highlights hot springs and falls, and the Highland to Valley Circuit, which is home to amusement parks and extreme sports venues.

The Coastal Circuit, which includes some of the area's upscale resorts, may soon start to offer more water sports like diving and snorkeling.

In the fourth quarter of the year, or before 2022 comes to an end, Dompor said they anticipate tripling the number of tourist arrivals from their original target.

As Covid-19 restrictions loosen, the province intends to host more tourism-related events in the future.

"More initiatives and NATO offers" (We will offer more activities). Trekking events were held prior to the summer events as appropriate for the season (Previously, we hosted summer events and trekking events in tune with the season). All of these can be present in one circuit, according to Dompor.
