On Sunday morning in the Azuela Cove in Davao City, the Alveo Ironman 70.3 triathlon got underway with approximately 1,700 competitors from 46 different nations taking part.

Sebastian Duterte, the mayor of Davao City, rang the gong to signal the beginning of the Pro, Individual, and Relay divisions of the race.

 

The competition featured a 21-kilometer run through the heart of Davao City, a 90-kilometer cycle track from Davao to Tagum City, and a 1.9-kilometer swim in the Davao Gulf.

With a time of 03:51:10, Felipe Azevedo of Portugal won the Ironman 70.3 Male Pro race. Ognen Stojanovic of Serbia came in second with a time of 03:52:29, followed by Tuan Chun Chang of Taiwan with a time of 03:57:13.

 

Sarah Crowley of Australia took first place in the Female Professional class with a time of 04:20:15, followed by Lauren Brandon of the United States with a time of 04:22:50 and Lottie Lucas of the United Arab Emirates with a time of 04:25:10.

 

A 12-man team competition (Tribu Maisugon) honoring the 11 tribes of Davao City is included in the competition in addition to the individual, relay all-male, relay all-female, and relay mixed events. The winner team will get P550.000.
