GrabCar has arrived in Davao City

Grace Vera Cruz, Grab Philippines' country leader, officially revealed the good news.

Following the first debut in Metro Manila in 2012 and Cebu location in 2016, Davao City is the third major location where Grab Philippines has developed a foothold.

"The launch of GrabCar is a milestone not of our journey alone but our collective journey towards a future intertwined with shared prosperity, unity, and inclusive progress," Vera Cruz stated in a press release.

She stated that the project is part of their commitment to addressing transportation issues in Davao City and throughout Mindanao.

"At Grab, we do not just see destinations, we see journeys. We just don't facilitate rides, we aspire to drive dreams forward," she went on to say.

Grab users had already been anticipating this new feature on the ride-hailing service app prior to its official introduction.

Vera Cruz noted that the delay in Grab's entry into Davao City was caused by a combination of internal Grab considerations and external reasons such as government laws and the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Grab wants to help the local government's goals of providing livelihood opportunities and improving MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) and tourism support as it develops its fleet of driver-partners to satisfy increased demand for safe and accessible transportation.

"We are humbled and excited to offer you an alternative means of mobility," Vera Cruz said in a statement.

Grab Philippines seeks to bridge the gap between economic activities and the region's overall connectedness by tackling the transportation concerns noted by the Mindanao Development Authority.

She told Dabawenyos that GrabCar values safety by including many safety elements in the Grab super app. 

Grab Philippines launched GrabAcademy, an online platform that offers upskilling possibilities to their drivers and delivery partners, in addition to ride-hailing, grocery, and food delivery services.

Currently, approximately 130 to 140 GrabCar units are operational in the city, mostly serving downtown areas, northern Lasang districts, and southern Toril and Calinan areas.
