Mark Villar, a former Secretary of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), has pledged to continue working on the Davao City Bypass Construction Project (DCBCP), which aims to improve transportation logistics and reduce vehicle traffic congestion in the city.

“Rest assured, we will continue to support and ensure the consistent efforts of DPWH in this 45.5-kilometer Davao City Bypass Construction Project. With the rapid population growth and economic development in recent years, DCBCP will provide job creation during construction and economic benefits through reduced travel time savings across the city,” Villar said.mark villar Davao City Bypass Construction Project

The Davao City Bypass Road Project is divided into six (6) CPs, namely the ongoing CP 1-1, CP 1-2, and CP 1-3, which are under procurement stage being financed by the loan agreement with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), while CP 2-1, CP 2-2, and CP 2-3 are to be funded by the Philippine government.

“This bypass road will mitigate congestions in Davao City with the travel time between Brgy. Sirawan in Toril District Davao City and Brgy. J.P. Laurel in Panabo City of 1 hour and 44 minutes via Pan-Philippine Highway Diversion Road to be reduced into 49 minutes via Davao City Bypass,” Villar added.

The construction of two (2)-tube mountain tunnels will be the longest road tunnel in the Philippines at 2.3 kilometers. There are other significant portions of the work as well. The contract includes the construction of a 7.9 km 4-lane road, 3 pairs of bridges with a total length of 500 meters, 2 underpasses, 2 overpasses, 12 box culverts (waterways), and 4 at-grade intersections. This contract package worth ₱13.230 billion has an estimated completion date of January 2024.

“Through the implementation of this bypass road, maaaring magtulak ito sa paglago ng ekonomiya sa buong Mindanao. It is also expected to generate jobs opportunities na makakatulong sa buhay ng mamamayang Pilipino,” Villar added.
