DABAWENYOS go to graves to commemorate All Saints' and All Souls' Day, despite severe rules.
The Public Safety and Security Office (PSSO) and the City Economic Enterprise (CEE) announced last October 9 during the ISpeak Media Forum that major cemeteries in the city, including Davao Memorial Park and Wireless Cemeteries, will begin opening its gates to visitors as early as 6 a.m. and will close at 10 p.m., with admittance only permitted until 9 p.m. for those who arrive late.
Furthermore, the PSSO and the CEE are enforcing severe limits for cemetery visitors, including a prohibition on carrying sharp or pointed objects, wearing jackets, listening to loud music, gambling, and drinking alcoholic beverages. Except under limited instances, drones and guns are strictly prohibited. Latecomers after 9:00 p.m. and loiterers are not permitted.
The "One Entrance, One Exit Policy" is strictly followed, and there are designated waste disposal places. Facemasks are recommended for susceptible individuals, and emergency medical tents will be set up at each cemetery entrance.
Despite the stringent guidelines set by the Davao Local Government Unit (LGU), many Dabawenyos visited municipal cemeteries to pay their respects to their lost loved ones.
