“For the year 2022, naa na ta’y duha na increases or changes sa atoang suggested retail prices, ang una katong January 27 ug ang ikaduha, last month lang, May 11, 2022... affected gyud ta karun sa mga panghitabo didto sa Russia ug Ukraine (Suggested retail prices of basic commodities have increased twice already – the first was on January 27 and the second was on May 11. We are really affected by the conflict in Russia and Ukraine),” Rachel Remitio, City Director of DTI Davao, said in an interview with the Davao City Disaster Radio, Monday, June 13, 2022.
Remitio clarified that the January increase was requested by manufacturers and processors in response to an increase in raw material prices. Manufacturers requested a one to five percent increase in SRP.
On May 11, the trade department approved an increase for 82 of 218 basic necessities and prime commodities.
According to Remitio, the two price increases have resulted in a 7% increase in the SRP of basic necessities and prime commodities.
“Niabot nag until seven percent ang increases sa mga presyo sa mga products under the basic necessities and prime commodities, actually naa gani ang salt ang increase is six to ten percent (The price increase for basic necessities and prime commodities have reached around seven percent already. Salt has also increased by around six to 10 percent),” Remitio said.
Remitio said manufacturers’ common reason for the price change is the increase in the cost of major raw materials and packaging materials.
Remitio said if manufacturers do not increase the SRP, some will be forced to lay-off their employees.
