DAVAO CITY – Mayor Sara Z. Duterte has reminded Dabawenyos anew to be ‘extra careful’ and to strictly follow the minimum public health standard (MPHS) as the city is currently experiencing a surge in coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases.

In a radio interview on Monday, she also urged the Dabawenyos to wear face masks anywhere they go.

“When you go out make sure that you continue to wear your face masks anywhere. Do not be complacent even on the members of your households,” Duterte said.

She pointed out that the transmission among households is evident in the new cases saying most were asymptomatic and mild cases.

“We should always remind ourselves to keep our distance from other people and we have to practice frequent handwashing using soap and water,” the mayor said.

She also said one of the doctors in the city told her that the surge might reach until the middle week of March.

“Hopefully not, but if we talk about forecasting, it is possible. This is our second week of the surge already, and our active cases are 6,899 and it is expected to climb up,” Duterte said.

Last week, this city has recorded the highest Covid-19 positivity rate of 48.34 percent amid the surge of cases.

The Department of Health in Davao Region (DOH-11) Covid-19 regional daily case bulletin showed that Davao City recorded more than 1,000 daily new cases of Covid-19 from January 19-23.
