Davao City Councilor Al Ryan Alejandre stated in an ambush interview on May 25 that "We will put welcome arches sa mga entrance and exit boundary points sa (in) Davao para (so that) that's part of the tourist destination."
The proposed arches are only one of many initiatives to boost Davao City's tourism and make it a regional Mecca for Meetings, Incentive Travel, Conventions, and Exhibitions (Mice).
On May 20, Alejandre held a post-evaluation meeting for Mice with the Department of Tourism - Davao Region (DOT-Davao), Davao City Tourism Operations Office (CTOO), various hotels, event planners, travel and tour firms, academics, and other members of the Tourism Council.
Micecon 2023 was held in Davao City, the city's first hosting the event in ten years.
Aside from adding welcome arches, the council plans to add and revisit street signages around the city, improve the aesthetics and ventilation of Mice venues, and a possible adding of toll fees on certain areas in Datu Salumay, Baganihan, Buda, Gumitan and portions of Marilog ug Malamba areas.
“Naa’y mga things to improve, for example ang venue sa gawas, medyo kailangan og mga electric fan, just a minimal [improvement] lang,” Alejandre said.
“Naa may mga (We only got) small provisions, but for the entire [micecon] activity, we got a good review, good comments, and good evaluation,” he added.
The councilor stated that Sebastian "Baste" Duterte, the mayor of the city, will be presented with the Tourism Council's strategy.
That is a component of a proposal that we will present to the Mayor. Let's see how it goes as it is based on the DPWH's demand for ordinansya, Alejandre remarked.
