Thousands of Dabawenyos started queuing at Central Park Subdivision early evening on Christmas eve for the gift-giving program in Taal, Bangkal, Davao City.
To the surprise of the audience, Vice President Sara Duterte attended the event and interacted with them. Despite not being present at the occasion, former President Rodrigo Duterte and his son, Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte, had previously individually thanked the barangay leaders for their unwavering support.
According to Davao City Police Office spokesperson Capt. Hazel Tuazon, 40,000 people gathered to the location from the start to the end of the action.
"Ang 40,000 estimated crowd pag start sa paglinya hangtod nahuman," Tuazon stated in a statement.
She stated that the action was suspended at 12:15 p.m. and did not resume until after 1 p.m.
"Generally peaceful ang activity gumikan sa security cluster na nagtinabangay para sa wala gyud kakulian at wala gyud kakulian at wala gyud kakulian and no reported incidents." "Naay uban nakuyapan, pero naa man naka standby na ambulance for immediate response," she remarked on Tuesday over Davao City Disaster Radio (DCDR).
The Dutertes' Christmas feast for the masses has been a yearly occurrence even before the FPRRD took office in 2016.
Dabawenyos were handed grocery packs as well as breakfast and lunch packs and gift coupons during the program.
Due to public health limitations set by the government in reaction to the Covid-19 outbreak, it had to be temporarily canceled in 2020 and 2021.
