A MAGNITUDE 6.4 earthquake hit Davao Oriental province Saturday afternoon, September 8, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

The Phivolcs said the quake, which was tectonic in origin, occurred at 3:16 p.m., with the epicenter located 26 kilometers (km) South of Manay, Davao Oriental. It had a depth of 13 km.

The tremor was felt at:

Intensity 5 - Davao City; Mati City, Davao Oriental

Intensity 4 - Koronadal City; Bislig City

Intensity 3 - Tupi, South Cotabato; Alabel, Glan and Malapatan, Sarangani

Intensity 2 - Cotabato City; Gen. Santos City; Valencia City, and Maramag, Bukidnon; Gingoog

City, Misamis Oriental

Intensity 1 - Intensity I - Cagayan de Oro City

The agency said that aftershocks and damages are expected.

In downtown Davao City, people have evacuated the buildings.
